The Echinacea supports the immune system through a variety of mechanisms that help the phagocytosis and production of T-Cell. The spirits are standardized to specific levels of the marker compounds known to enhance the immune system. Caffeic acid derivatives (echinacosides), polysaccharides, polyacetylenes, alkylamides, and flavonoids are among the constituents of this plant, known to their activities.

Herbal medicines are traditionally used Echinacea to treat inflammatory and viral diseases like colds, cough and upper respiratory infections. Recent studies show that they can also be used as an antioxidant against free radicals to prevent cardiovascular disease, arthritis and aging.

The parts of Echinacea used in herbal medicinal products are the roots and aerial parts of three species: Echinacea purpurea, Echinacea angustifolia and Echinacea pallida. The main active components of Echinacea are caffeic acid derivatives (phenolic compounds), alkamides and polysaccharides. The Chicoric acid is the main phenolic compound in purpurea Echinacea.

The essence of the root E.purpurea has a greater capacity for removing free radicals from those of E.pallida or E. angustifolia, by increasing the amount of phenolic encountered it. The E. purpurea is also known to stimulate the immune system to prevent the common cold, flu and chronic respiratory infections because it is rich in cichoric acid. The Now Echinacea contains 400mg of the most active form of Echinacea purpurea.
